Ever increasing amount of information, digitalisation of knowledge and inability of traditional containers of information – books to cope with modern speed of distribution of information turned my attention to the materiality of a book. What is it made from? And where do all the discarded books go? Is book recycling the best solution?
I have found that thousands of books are being discarded every day and we need to find a solution to deal with that. The idea is to give books a new life books which can be recirculated can find new readers, books which are for some reason not going to be read should be repurposed. The rest of discarded books are safely returned to nature. The proposed system is aimed to connect existing bookcrossing and repurposing schemes and promote creativity in finding solutions to deal with changing role of books.
Originating from St Petersburg, Russia, Inessa was always affected by the Scandinavian way of thinking, rather than Russian. She appreciated minimalism in design, things with history and natural materials. She loves the beauty coming out of scarcity and constraint in design and always in search in creating additional value to society and purpose in everything she does.
