repair the industry

Did you assume that ceramics would biodegrade by dumping into the land fill? It doesn’t and it never will, just like those ancient pots dig out dated at 4000 BC. The ceramic industry can easily produce 20,000 tonnes of ceramic waste each year, which is equivalent to the annual total household waste of 39,000 people. Repairing objects and creating new products from ceramic waste utilises the up-valuing concept of the traditional Japanese pottery fixing skill, “Kintsugi”. This project aims to raise awareness of industrial waste to lead consumers to criticise their consuming habits. Industry manufacturing processes will thus change to fulfil the consumer’s new consuming habits, just like fair-trade and free-range; ultimately the whole consumer cycle will be an all-win situation. With this ontological concept, industrial waste could no longer be an environmental concern.
